ここニューヘイブンに在住している日本人もイェール大学関係者を中心として、日本で被災された方、日本にいる家族や友人、同僚を思い、自分たちに何かできないかについて日々アイデアを出し合っております。
具体的には、各種講演会やイベントを開催し、募金活動を行うことの企画が進められています。あわせて、震災に対して私たちができることをディスカッションするメーリングリストも立ち上がりました。これはイェール大学関係者だけではなく、広くコネチカット州や近隣エリアの日本人の方とも連携していくことを目的としています。

Symposium: Earthquake, Tsunami, and Nuclear Crisis: Analyzing Disaster
in Japan
On March 11th, a magnitude 9.0 megathrust earthquake struck off the
coast of northern Japan. In the quake and the ensuing tsunami,
thousands have lost their lives and more are stranded without help.
The ensuing failure of the cooling systems at the Fukushima Nuclear
Power Plant have led to an unprecedented challenge for Japan. This
panel discussion, moderated by Jun Saito, Assistant Professor of
Political Science at Yale, reviews special features of the disaster,
analyzes what went wrong in the nuclear power plant, and investigates
the implications for the future of Japan and the world. Following the
panelist presentations, there will be a discussion of what the Yale
community can do for disaster relief and prevention, as well as a
candlelight vigil for victims and their families on Cross Campus at
8:30 PM.
